“You can now swipe your Sephora Credit Card”

Well..that’s an interesting phrase to get used to.

Yep, Sephora announces their exclusive credit card while teaming up with VISA so you can use it anywhere. That means for gas..even for coffee.

They are said to launch it later this Spring and I think we can start rolling the ball now! I want to see how they market it to us in stores and if any of the benefits are worth it.

We know ULTA Beauty launched their credit card with VISA years ago and it might’ve been one of the best decisions they’ve done so early on in their retail career. Reason being is because their rewards system is KICK ASS and they know it!

It’s so magical to see how companies like VISA are eager to team up with ULTA and Sephora. It demonstrates strong and stable growth in beauty retail.

At ULTA, every dollar spent on the credit card is worth a point and while they accumulate over time, certain ranges of points are qualified as money off of your purchases. You can also use your reward money anytime. (On prestige makeup too!)

Not to mention the magazines and coupons that come in the mail with the classic $3.50 off.

So this is cool, I’ve hyped myself up for ULTA. But it’s Sephora that is launching their credit card now and last time I checked, points get us samples..small samples.

I can’t forget about that birthday gift though!

But seriously, Sephora’s rewards system isn’t up to par with ULTA’s when I think about how much they give back to the customer. Which is KEY to customer growth!

I would totally use their credit card for gas, makeup, shoes, etc if it meant the point system gave money back (reward money), the way ULTA does.

Do I think it’s worth spending more money for samples? No.

Do I think it’s worth spending more money for money back? Yes.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

While Sephora hasn’t hit us with the news yet, it might be because they’re attempting to fix how the reward system will play its part in the new credit card. *crosses fingers*

They did disclaim there will be some differences between the credit card rewards and the beauty insider rewards. Let’s just hope this becomes clarified. Only way to go from here is up!

Andrea Zaretsky, Senior VP of CRM and Loyalty at Sephora said, “The Sephora Credit Card was the next natural step in our loyalty journey…taking our client experiences to the next level through special access, rewards and perks.”

For those approved that don’t have a rewards membership already, they will be automatically signed up! So this is all supposed to be for the grand scheme of loyalty in the points system.

I agree, that’s a smart move! And Sephora might need a better point system incentive to add on. If they do change the benefits to reward money after years of petite-cute samples, ULTA will look like the OG of beauty retail 101. *flips hair*

The Miracle of Mascara

Welcome back my beautiful friends. How’s everyone organizing their time to get their business handled?! While you’re on break from being a boss, let’s admire the power of MASCARA. You know you couldn’t live without it.

I admit, I usually say eyebrows frame the face and contouring is life but talk about framing THE EYES. Masacara takes the crown. I look like a boy without masacara!

Three reasons why I believe mascara does this miracle of enhancement.

1. Length – This was definitely the goal we all first wished for when we were little gals trying out mascara. It wasn’t even about the eyes at this point if i’m being honest. It was about how long I can make these dang eye lashes. SO FUTURISTIC, SUCH SORCERY. Brands like Covergirl and Too Faced claim their mascaras do just the trick.

Long lashes barely touching your eyebrows is such a feminine charm. The best way to lengthen your lashes is to find a wand that offers alot of bristles instead of those big, foamy ones. Skinny wands as well so you can see easier as you work your way up the lashes!

2. Volume – Now that I’m in a different stage, volume matters alot to me. I love the fullness it brings all the way down to the root. I’m not a fan of huge gaps in between each lash, volume makes your rims look thick! It fills in the perimeter of your eyes giving off a complete look. That being said, I love clumpy/thick lashes!

I know most people call clumpy lashes “tree branches”, yes I’ve heard this before. But I refuse to wear mascara if I’m not going to make it obvious, if that makes sense. Either way I have to remove it with a wipe at the end of the night so make both products worthwhile!

3. Pigment – My most recent obsession is the absolute intensity change it has on your eyes but also the face. Brands create different colored mascaras, like NYX Cosmetics with shades purple, green, pink and blue.

NYX Color Mascaras at $7.99

Even with dark lashes naturally, the mascara color “Blackest Black” is a common drugstore shade thrown in. LET ME SAY IT WORKS. It’s better for a dark-lash girl like me! My friends with light lashes go through such a change, it’s beautiful! For a softer look, look for mascaras in the shade “Brown”.

SO, WHAT HAVE I BEEN USING LATELY? I use more than one because the more, the better! Honestly I don’t know why, but all you need is a long-lasting one for the layers. I also use a waterproof mascara for special events and even just as a final coat so I know these lashes are going to stay on! Universal use, right?

I also scout for the formula of mascara. I prefer a thick base than thin formula because of my obsession with stand-out lashes. It’s all preference and trial there! Some say high-end mascara is undoubtedly better than drugstore but if the formula is right, I don’t see a problem!

What’s your favorite mascara? Any tips to volumize lashes? Comment below ❤

Drybar gave me major hair inspiration again

Hello my beautiful friends ❤ I wish nothing but love and peace in your day and a wonderful holiday season thus far. I’m grateful for everyone who’s kept up with my life and letting my words make a impact on your lives.

May the word of love be shared and positive affirmations be reciprocated everyday.

– Your fav Sagittarius

Maybe it’s just me, but does anyone with long hair notice they don’t do anything to it anymore? Just air dry after the shower and hope the frizzes stay under control.

What about those days I used to obsessively straighten my hair and slick it back to a sleek ponytail? Or curl my hair and part it in the middle for a bouncy, 70’s effect?

So this wasn’t something I was randomly reminded of. But life has weird ways of reintroducing GOOD, FULFILLING care habits in our lives!

The end of November, I traveled to Las Vegas to celebrate my 21st birthday with my amazing mom basically funding the whole trip. Woot woot!

She booked an appointment to get my hair with Drybar! Working at Ulta Beauty a few years back, I know this brand is a huge seller in dry shampoos and treatments. I was so excited!

My stylist was the cutest! I didn’t know if she wanted to be in the picture aka that’s why you won’t see her face. She was so soft with my scalp and gentle brushing through my hair. I was sad my pineapple mojito was finishing so quickly!

I told her I envisioned loose Hollywood waves so she busted out her curler and went to work after my blow dry. So much talent goes into hair care and styling. Why is this so amazing to share with you all!?

One product that stood out to me the most was the first product she used right before blow drying my hair. It left my hair drying so soft to the touch and my curls came out so shiny! This prep step product is something I have to shop for this week.

After this total hair transformation for the day, I realized how much I’ve been LACKING in styling it. I need to get back into it! What a boost to my spirit and drive to my step.

What hair styles have you all been loving? Should I gather some cute ones and share them?

Xoxo PAULINA

Rant with Pauly: Shade range consistency

Hi everyone!

How’s everyone celebrating their Friday tonight? Another week has flown by and for some reason I always have this irritating, lingering thought of some palettes I’ve been seeing launched.

I’m sure they’re of great quality! Morphe and Kylie Cosmetics have had amazing reviews globally and their profits seem in good shape.

But let’s talk about color scheme, shall we. Has anyone ever seen eye looks and they detail in their caption how many colors they used and you just can’t believe it? Warm, bronzey tones have a lot of shade ranges in common so it’s easy for them to look opaque and just too similar..

Duh, these colors are so effortless for a casual and even sultry look. But the idea that they’re so general and easy to use, makes you even question if it’s worth buying. Here are some pics of Morphe’s and Kylie Cosmetic’s palettes.

I could give atleast 3 pans that literally look the same! The idea of placing your brush on your eyes and expecting pigmented, unique shades just doesn’t come across these. Is it even worth the purchase or effort into launching?

Kylie Cosmetics The Bronze Extended Palette

I was so excited for the Gigi Hadid x Maybelline series but the range was so shockingly sad! And similarly, they’re very warm, dull/opaque tones. The shades just seem the same and it doesn’t makes my eyes pop at first glance. It’s hard, I get it.

Maybe some creativity will inspire a new wave of warm, bronzer tones. I just want to see some different scheme brought to the table.

While we’re here, let me show you some palettes I’ve definitely been eyeing this week. Or maybe obsessing over!

MAC Cosmetics will be available at Ulta Beauty this Spring 2017

If you know anything about MAC Cosmetics, you know this world-famous brand has been around for decades since 1984. It’s been around longer than I have, and it was actually one of the first makeup products I bought as a little girl following in my mom’s footsteps.

MAC built its brand off of exclusivity, meaning if you ever shopped at a MAC Cosmetics store, the only brand you can purchase is MAC itself. Which also had a high demand because let’s be honest, MAC has everything you could hope for in a beauty basket.

By huge surprise, MAC Cosmetics is joining the wave of other brands this Spring and coming to Ulta Beauty, a chain of beauty stores carrying both high- and low-end cosmetics for men and women.

Although everyone is cheering and getting their paychecks ready to splurge, I can’t help but wonder why is it that a makeup brand as prestigious and store exclusive as MAC Cosmetics is joining this cosmetics chain. I am not for one bit saying MAC is a dead-beat cosmetics line, but I have noticed a significant increase in other makeup brands and advertisements for them. So my question is, is MAC Cosmetics falling behind on this beauty phenomenon we are having now?

Well first, MAC Cosmetics is one of the only companies still standing tall since the 1980s. Many have dropped or gone bankrupt like King Cosmetics, mainly because some brands don’t follow trends. I don’t mean seasonal trends, I mean following the artistry trends as years go on.

Second, it’s important to know that MAC Cosmetics is actually a child company of Estee Lauder. Did I just blow your mind? Estee Lauder is actually the parent of brands like Clinique, Aveda and DKNY.

But let’s talk numbers. The net worth of Estee Lauder as of 2017, reported by Forbes, is set to be $10.6 billion, and this is also a family-run company so they distribute the wealth. According to Fast Company, a website giving annual reports on brands, MAC Cosmetics alone holds a net worth of $6.3 billion, a little over half of the money for the entire company of Estee Lauder.

So what does this mean?

I think this is the start of the beauty business booming. Estee Lauder can’t afford to lose such a wealthy business like MAC. If all brands are suddenly being put into beauty trade stores like Ulta beauty and Sephora, Estee Lauder needs to grab a surfboard and follow the wave.

This is no longer a one-shot deal of manufacturing the product and simply selling it. Now we have huge trade stores like Ulta Beauty being that middle man, getting profit in return.

Although this may not be ideal to some brands, this is the future of the beauty business. All the beauty products you could think of conveniently in one place, who’s the genius behind this?

Huge props to Estee Lauder company for noticing this huge transition in time and getting it settled before it’s too late. As far as I can see it, MAC Cosmetics will be slaying the beauty business for the next coming decades. They’re here to stay and joining an Ulta near you this coming spring!
