“You can now swipe your Sephora Credit Card”

Well..that’s an interesting phrase to get used to.

Yep, Sephora announces their exclusive credit card while teaming up with VISA so you can use it anywhere. That means for gas..even for coffee.

They are said to launch it later this Spring and I think we can start rolling the ball now! I want to see how they market it to us in stores and if any of the benefits are worth it.

We know ULTA Beauty launched their credit card with VISA years ago and it might’ve been one of the best decisions they’ve done so early on in their retail career. Reason being is because their rewards system is KICK ASS and they know it!

It’s so magical to see how companies like VISA are eager to team up with ULTA and Sephora. It demonstrates strong and stable growth in beauty retail.

At ULTA, every dollar spent on the credit card is worth a point and while they accumulate over time, certain ranges of points are qualified as money off of your purchases. You can also use your reward money anytime. (On prestige makeup too!)

Not to mention the magazines and coupons that come in the mail with the classic $3.50 off.

So this is cool, I’ve hyped myself up for ULTA. But it’s Sephora that is launching their credit card now and last time I checked, points get us samples..small samples.

I can’t forget about that birthday gift though!

But seriously, Sephora’s rewards system isn’t up to par with ULTA’s when I think about how much they give back to the customer. Which is KEY to customer growth!

I would totally use their credit card for gas, makeup, shoes, etc if it meant the point system gave money back (reward money), the way ULTA does.

Do I think it’s worth spending more money for samples? No.

Do I think it’s worth spending more money for money back? Yes.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

While Sephora hasn’t hit us with the news yet, it might be because they’re attempting to fix how the reward system will play its part in the new credit card. *crosses fingers*

They did disclaim there will be some differences between the credit card rewards and the beauty insider rewards. Let’s just hope this becomes clarified. Only way to go from here is up!

Andrea Zaretsky, Senior VP of CRM and Loyalty at Sephora said, “The Sephora Credit Card was the next natural step in our loyalty journey…taking our client experiences to the next level through special access, rewards and perks.”

For those approved that don’t have a rewards membership already, they will be automatically signed up! So this is all supposed to be for the grand scheme of loyalty in the points system.

I agree, that’s a smart move! And Sephora might need a better point system incentive to add on. If they do change the benefits to reward money after years of petite-cute samples, ULTA will look like the OG of beauty retail 101. *flips hair*

Rant with Pauly: Shade range consistency

Hi everyone!

How’s everyone celebrating their Friday tonight? Another week has flown by and for some reason I always have this irritating, lingering thought of some palettes I’ve been seeing launched.

I’m sure they’re of great quality! Morphe and Kylie Cosmetics have had amazing reviews globally and their profits seem in good shape.

But let’s talk about color scheme, shall we. Has anyone ever seen eye looks and they detail in their caption how many colors they used and you just can’t believe it? Warm, bronzey tones have a lot of shade ranges in common so it’s easy for them to look opaque and just too similar..

Duh, these colors are so effortless for a casual and even sultry look. But the idea that they’re so general and easy to use, makes you even question if it’s worth buying. Here are some pics of Morphe’s and Kylie Cosmetic’s palettes.

I could give atleast 3 pans that literally look the same! The idea of placing your brush on your eyes and expecting pigmented, unique shades just doesn’t come across these. Is it even worth the purchase or effort into launching?

I was so excited for the Gigi Hadid x Maybelline series but the range was so shockingly sad! And similarly, they’re very warm, dull/opaque tones. The shades just seem the same and it doesn’t makes my eyes pop at first glance. It’s hard, I get it.

Maybe some creativity will inspire a new wave of warm, bronzer tones. I just want to see some different scheme brought to the table.

While we’re here, let me show you some palettes I’ve definitely been eyeing this week. Or maybe obsessing over!

Jasmine Urioste : Makeup Artist

Since Jasmine was four years old competing on her local gymnastics team, she dove head first into the makeup world and hasn’t looked back.

“I love everything about makeup. During my down time, I would practice for HOURS on myself, my sister, mom, and friends. After I graduated high school, I had people asking me for advice on prom, homecoming, and senior portrait makeup. So I took it upon myself to start my own makeup social media and build my brand,” Jasmine said.

Jasmine soon realized her destiny involved makeup and empowering others.

“What’s your favorite part of your career?”

“I get to do what I love every single day. From a young age, I never wanted to dread going to work or coming home from my miserable job…I never feel like I’m working.”

Her availability in the Woodbridge, VA area is mainly flexible and available. Miss Jasmine said moving into the Spring weather means a lot of bridal makeup on her plate. (Hint Hint for anyone looking!)

“I also work as a lead makeup artist for Amazing Occasions, a hair and makeup studio in Manassas, Va.”

Miss Jasmine also informed me of receiving one of the first Kylie Jenner Lip Kits as a present from her boyfriend. Which sold out UNDER 1 MINUTE. It gets crazier! A couple days later after trying them on and snapping a few pictures for Instagram, Jasmine’s picture was featured on Kylie Cosmetic’s Instagram page in 2015! “I’m still in complete shock. I always got my inspiration for beauty and fashion from her,” Jasmine said.

Artist icon, Rihanna releases debut beauty line for Fall 2017

After a $10 million deal with LVMH (Louis Vuitton) last April, singer and songwriter Rihanna will be launching her new beauty line with a complete makeup collection this upcoming Fall online and in Sephora’s near you. If that doesn’t make you want to save your money, I don’t know what will.

If you’re wondering how this collaboration came about, keep reading.

IMG_1348

Diana Espino, LVMH global president of marketing said, “what she produces has the authenticity of a fashion icon and an entertainment trendsetter. She is really a developer.” Rihanna has been awarded eight Grammys, 12 Billboard Music Awards and not to mention is the youngest solo artist at the age of 28 to complete these.

Recently, Harvard University has named Rihanna as Humanitarian of the Year 2017 for promoting human rights back home in Barbados. So it’s no wonder how Rihanna is making waves in all aspects of entertainment.

Surely Rihanna has already been exposed to the makeup world with her limited-time collection with MAC Cosmetics, “RiRi Hearts MAC” in 2014. Also her on-going perfume collaboration with Parlux Ltd. is now at their seventh launch from Fall 2015 profiting almost $75 million, so to say Rihanna is an amateur in the field of beauty chaos would be a flat-out lie. She clearly knows what she’s doing to keep us running back for more.

Kendo, a Sephora affiliation with Fenty Beauty seeking to develop and advertise the brand has been on the hunt for world-class makeup artists to join the team of Fenty Beauty. Erik Soto, global educator in beauty, posted a ‘help-wanted’ on Instagram calling all makeup- artists to come out to locations of either New York City, Dallas, or Los Angeles to audition for the chance of a lifetime late February. Anyone down for a road trip?

IMG_1350

Rihanna’s new line, Fenty Beauty, have revealed their first product to be a holographic lip stick (clear and shiny formula) inspired from her Fenty x Puma Spring show from early 2017. Although LVMH haven’t released any other news regarding her collection, we’re dying to see what Rihanna has in store for all us crazy fanatics!

Stay tuned to Pauly’s Beauty Community for updates.
